Voyeurism & Fetishism

The definition of voyeurism was really interesting, and the reading mentioned that Hitchock used this strategy a lot in his earlier films. This is probably why they are so enjoyable, even today, since they cause a huge sense of mystery and suspense when we are watching something from an outside perspective. This is done in the actual camera angles and also includes muffled sounds or eerie music, signals that subconsciously tell us we probably shouldn't be listening in. I notice this theme all the time in modern pieces too, like in action TV shows. A lot of the times in shows like Homeland we are watching an exchange through the bushes or through a camera lens, which creates a huge amount of suspense. Fetishism was also interesting to read about, since it is another strategy that is definitely used today. Before introducing a character, there are often close ups on things the article mentioned, like fingernails, high heels, and other suggestive parts of the body. Less so, but I can think of some examples where it could be used for men (but, due to the nature of inequality, these examples are typically less sexualized).
