The End Of Cinema
This article was an interesting read because of how different the world of cinema is today than it was in the past. Even in my short time as a movie watching human I have grown up in a world of serious cinema change. As a child going to the movies was a treat and I looked forward to it. But now I know I can pirate any movie online or watch one on netflix from the comfort of my own home making the movie watching experience very different. In the section about the new media environment explained the idea that we can fast forward or rewind on film's and television now which dramatically changes the viewing experience. The comparison between the film screen, the television screen, and the computer screen made note that compute users are not true spectators. One can use a device whether it be mouse, finger, or keyboard to manipulate what is contained within the parameter of the screen. Computers therefore interfere with the patterns of human thought. I never viewed a computer screen in this way before but it makes sense and is very eye opening especially the comparison they use when they say that "using computers is like going to the movie theatre and having to watch the projector instead of the film."The end of the article focused on how these ideas have reinvented film studies which caused me to reflect on my time in this course. They noted that film is an endangered species and I agree, without this course I would have never seen the amazing films that I enjoyed and also now have a broader understanding of all the work that goes into a single shot in a film.
