Hayward, "Voyeurism/Fetishism"
Hayward defines voyeurism: the act of viewing the activities of other people unbeknown to them. I found this idea to be extremely interesting and different. I've never though of film watching in that way. When I watch a film, I usually feel like I am going through the journey with the character, and that they are sharing an intimate part of their life with me. In actuality, the entire practice of film viewing would technically be unannounced to the characters. This also seems like an invasion of privacy to me. It made me questions different techniques of filming that we have learned about. For example, the idea of Point of View shots now seems pretty strange. We are seeing what the characters are seeing, without their knowledge.
