Bellour "The Obvious and the Code"

After watching the film The Big Sleep and shortly after that, then reading Bellours essay on the analysis of that particular 12 shot scene in the car. Originally I thought nothing of the scene and the use of camera angles and movements. When I read Bellours essay I didn’t realize how in depth you can get about one particular scene that he thought conveyed a meaning that was passed along to us viewers. He points out how every shot had a purpose if it was Vivian  and Marlowe both in the same shot or when they went to just showing one or the other character at one time. We don’t notice it at first but we realize the emotions that they were giving to each other to convey this meaning. When they go to Vivian when she says “I guess I’m in love with you” to specifically show her face and understands what’s going on. As well as when Marlowe says it back its just him. Then the camera goes back to the two of them at once to show there emotions.
