Bazin

The article written by Bazin was interesting yet also I found it to be a bit confusing. What I got out of the reading was that at the core a film should resemble real life and the real world as much as it possibly can. I think that this is because if a film can do this for the audience then the audience can have a greater connection to the work itself. Some of the ways in which Bazin says that film can obtain more realism is through techniques such as a greater use of depth of field, and less cutting and editing in films. I think that his view is valid in that it is ideal for films to maintain a realism that the audience can understand and relate to. However, I wonder first how realistic it is to create films to the standard of realism that Bazin was interested in. I do not think it is possible to create films, which meet this level of realism. I definitely feel that a director and producer can create a film that will meet an expectation of reality for some viewers but I do not see how it could fit “reality” for all spectators as reality and realism are such subjective terms. In all I find that Bazin’s theory is interesting  and I’d like to see a true example of a film that could be classified under realism.
